Sweet coffee spots: Where to find delicious coffee in CDMX
If you’re not into bitter coffee or want something different, this guide is for you
I used to be one of those people who didn’t drink coffee. Honestly, I didn’t even like it much. The bitter, acidic taste just wasn’t for me. But a few months ago, my doctor told me that coffee helps keep your metabolism going and boosts antioxidants (whatever that means).
Since then, I’ve become a bit of a sweet coffee1 connoisseur and found some gems worth sharing. Like cafechata, a blend of horchata and coffee, or Rosita, an infusion of cacao flower and coffee. If you don’t like bitter coffee like me, this guide’s for you. And if you’re a coffee purist, give these a shot—you might find a new favorite.
Lonchería Migaja
This hidden gem in La Escandón serves up cafechata that inspired this guide. It’s like drinking pinole with milk, with a coffee kick at the end. Perfect for hot days or when you need a delicious wake-up call. Get it cold and enjoy the vibes of one of the city's authentic neighborhoods.
Buna Café
Maybe cafechata is the drink of the moment, and I just didn’t know. Buna’s version reminds me of my mom’s sweet potato with piloncillo and milk from Día de Muertos. It took me right back to my childhood. Enjoy it cold, no extra sweetener needed.
Café Tormenta
My top pick is the rosita coffee from Café Tormenta. It’s infused with cacao flower, giving it a sweet touch, made with plant based milk, and best enjoyed hot. Tormenta's menu is a bit rigid—you can’t make many changes—but that’s because everything is crafted to perfection. At first, the baristas, Fer and Gio, gave me funny looks for asking for miel de agave in my rosita, but now they’re got my order down. Props to them. <3
Kiyo Café
Kiyo Café, next to PPAAYYSS in La Juárez, sources its beans straight from Oaxaca and Veracruz. My fave is the sesame latte, which technically isn’t coffee but can have a shot of espresso added. It’s a delicious mix of toasted black sesame, coconut cream, and oat milk. I recommend it with the espresso shot for a sweet, rich flavor. I had it hot, but you can get it cold too.
This Journey Isn’t Over
My coffee adventure continues, and I’m excited to discover more flavors and spots to share with you. Have you tried any of these drinks? Let me know your thoughts or recommend some sweet coffee spots! Plus, I’m working on new entries about cafes that recently opened, so stay tuned for cool updates.
Disclaimer: I’m not just drinking sugar with coffee. When I say “sweet,” I mean I prefer my drinks with a touch of honey, stevia, or some unique ingredient. That’s all.
